Why You’ll Love This Recipe

There’s something timeless about a pot of slow-simmered beans. Pinto beans become tender and creamy while soaking up all that smoky goodness from the turkey. Traditionally, recipes use pork for flavor—but smoked turkey is a fantastic substitute that still delivers that rich taste.

This recipe is:

  • ✅ Alpha-gal friendly
  • ✅ Budget-friendly and filling
  • ✅ Perfect for meal prep
  • ✅ Simple, pantry-based ingredients
  • ✅ Comfort food at its best

Ingredients You’ll Need

Exact amounts are in the video and the recipe below, but here’s a general overview of what goes into this dish:

  • Smoked turkey (we use a leg)
  • Dried pinto beans
  • Onion and garlic powders, salt and pepper, paprika, cumin, basil, and oregano.
  • A large onion
  • Organic Better than Bouillon, Vegetable Flavor
  • Vegan Liquid Smoke

Smoked turkey adds a deep, savory flavor that develops as the beans slowly cook, creating a rich and satisfying broth.

How to Make Smoked Turkey and Pinto Beans

This recipe is simple and forgiving. Perfect for beginner cooks or busy days!

1. Prep the Beans

Rinse and sort your dried pinto beans. You can soak them overnight or use a quick-soak method.

2. Build the Flavor

Add all of the ingredients to your instant pot or slow cooker.

3. Simmer Low and Slow

Let everything cook until the beans are tender. Slow cooking allows the smoky flavor to fully infuse the beans.

4. Shred the Turkey

Once the turkey is tender, remove it from the pot, shred the meat, and return it to the beans.

5. Serve and Enjoy

Serve hot with your favorite sides!
